Apple has moved one step closer to paying eligible iPhone owners through a proposed $250 million class-action settlement involving delayed Siri and Apple Intelligence features.
A federal judge granted the settlement preliminary approval on July 17, 2026. Eligible customers may receive a payment for each qualifying device, but claims aren't open yet—and approved claimants will likely have to wait until late 2027 or longer before receiving any money.

Here's what iPhone owners need to know about eligibility, potential payments, the claims process, and the unusually long settlement timeline.
The payment amount is not guaranteed. It may increase or decrease depending on the number of valid claims, administrative costs, attorneys’ fees and other court-approved deductions.
Apple introduced Apple Intelligence during its June 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference and promoted several advanced Siri capabilities.
The advertised features included a more personalized Siri that could understand information stored across a user’s device, recognize what was displayed on the screen and perform more complex actions inside supported apps.
The lawsuit alleged that Apple’s advertising encouraged customers to purchase new iPhones with the expectation that these enhanced Siri features would be available, even though some of the promoted capabilities weren't included when the phones went on sale.
Apple later announced in March 2025 that the personalized Siri features would be delayed. The class-action lawsuit accused the company of misleading customers about the availability and capabilities of Apple Intelligence.
Apple denies the allegations and has not admitted wrongdoing. The company agreed to the settlement to resolve the litigation and remain focused on developing its products and services.

The settlement includes the following Apple Intelligence-compatible iPhones:
The regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are not included because those models do not support Apple Intelligence.
Owning one of the listed models by itself is not enough to qualify. The device must also have been purchased during the settlement’s specified date range and under the other eligibility requirements.
Not sure which iPhone you own? Apple provides instructions to identify your exact iPhone model.

You may be included in the settlement when all of the following apply:
The purchase window applies even to models that were originally released before June 10, 2024. For example, an iPhone 15 Pro purchased in July 2024 could qualify, while the same model purchased in May 2024 would fall outside the class period.
The settlement establishes a $250 million fund, but that doesn't mean the entire amount will be divided directly among customers.
The fund will first cover expenses that may include settlement administration, customer notifications, taxes, attorneys’ fees, litigation expenses and service awards approved by the court. The remaining money will then be distributed among customers who submit valid claims.
The proposed allocation begins with a presumptive payment of $25 per eligible device. That amount could be adjusted:
The court noted that reaching the $95 maximum appears unlikely because the settlement administrator expects to conduct an extensive notification campaign. The exact payment will not be known until all claims have been reviewed.
The proposed settlement allows class members to submit a claim for each eligible device they purchased during the qualifying period.
Someone who purchased two qualifying iPhones may therefore be able to claim compensation for both devices, provided each purchase satisfies the settlement requirements.
The final payment would be calculated on a per-device basis rather than being limited to one payment per person. Claimants must be prepared to provide identifying information for every device included in the claim.
As of July 27, 2026, eligible iPhone owners don't need to take action because the official claim process has not opened.
Verita Global has been appointed as the settlement administrator. Under the preliminary approval order, the notification program must begin within 45 days of the July 17 order, meaning notices should begin no later than August 31, 2026.
Once claims open, eligible customers are expected to have 90 days from the official notice date to submit a claim.
The final claim form may require information including:
Keep purchase receipts, carrier records, Apple order confirmations and eligible-device serial numbers available while waiting for the official claims portal to open.
Don't submit personal or financial information through websites, emails or social media posts that haven't been confirmed as part of the court-authorized settlement process.
The July 2026 ruling only granted preliminary approval. It didn't give final authorization for payments to be distributed.
The claims administrator must first notify potential class members, accept claims, process exclusions and objections, and validate the submitted device information. The court has scheduled the final approval hearing for September 29, 2027.
Settlement payments are scheduled for 60 days after the agreement’s effective date. However, the effective date may be delayed by objections, appeals or changes to the court schedule.
As a result, eligible customers shouldn't expect payments before late 2027. The process could take longer if the settlement is appealed or its final approval hearing is postponed.
No. The settlement has received preliminary approval, but the judge must still decide whether to grant final approval.
Preliminary approval allows the settlement administrator to begin notifying consumers and collecting claims. It doesn't guarantee that the settlement will take effect exactly as proposed.
At the September 2027 hearing, the court will consider whether the agreement is fair, reasonable and adequate. The court will also review requests for attorneys’ fees, expenses and service awards.
No settlement payments can be distributed before final court approval.
This case is separate from Apple’s earlier Siri privacy settlement.
The current $250 million case concerns allegations that Apple advertised enhanced Siri and Apple Intelligence features that were delayed or unavailable when customers purchased certain iPhones.
The previous Siri case involved allegations concerning unintended Siri activations and the recording of private conversations. Customers should be careful not to confuse outdated claim instructions for that settlement with the forthcoming claims process for this Apple Intelligence case.
There is nothing to file immediately, but potential claimants can prepare by:
Receiving a notice may make filing easier, but complete instructions will not be known until the settlement administrator launches the official claim process.
The presumptive payment is $25 for each eligible device. The amount may be adjusted lower or higher depending on the number of approved claims and settlement expenses, with a maximum of $95 per device.
Eligible devices include the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16, iPhone 16e, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max.
No. The settlement covers the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, but not the standard iPhone 15 or iPhone 15 Plus.
The eligible device must have been purchased in the United States between June 10, 2024 and March 29, 2025.
Not yet. The settlement administrator has not launched the official claim process. Notices are expected to begin by the end of August 2026.
The final requirements have not been confirmed, but claimants should keep any available receipts, order confirmations or carrier records. A serial number or another device identifier is also expected to be required.
The final approval hearing is scheduled for September 29, 2027. Payments are not expected until late 2027 at the earliest and could be delayed further by appeals or court-schedule changes.
No. Apple denies wrongdoing, and the proposed settlement is not an admission of liability.
The preliminary approval of Apple’s $250 million settlement is an important development for customers who purchased certain iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 models while expecting the full set of advertised Siri and Apple Intelligence capabilities.
Eligible owners could eventually receive compensation for every qualifying device, but the payment won't be automatic. Customers must submit a valid claim once the court-authorized process opens.
For now, verify your model and purchase date, keep your device information available and wait for an official settlement notice. Even after filing, payment is unlikely to arrive before late 2027.
